Becoming a CareCoach

Who are CareCoaches?

CareCoaches are family members of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. They have volunteered to mentor eligible families. CareCoaches can share experiences and stories to help guide families as they learn about a child’s diagnosis, look for health care options and discover community resources.

What is the process?
  • First, register online.

  • Your registration will be reviewed and TCP CareConnect will send additional instructions based on the information you provide.

  • Once approved, log in securely and complete your CareCoach profile.

  • Registered members will then be able to search the directory of CareCoaches, looking for common diagnoses, geographical areas, and other general information. Members will NOT have access to your address, phone number or last name through TCP Care Connect.

  • Once a member contacts you through TCP CareConnect's secure messaging, you will receive an email notification. Log in and reply.

  • Communicate through the site’s messaging feature as needed.

Do CareCoaches get paid?

No, the TCP CareConnect service is free to members and supported by volunteers who know how important it can be to have someone share experiences and information.

Am I eligible to become a CareCoach?

Because everyone's experiences are different, not all applicants will become CareCoaches.

The initial qualifications are:

  1. You reside in North Carolina

  2. Your child (or a child you provide or provided care for) has a diagnosis of hearing loss (any type or degree)

  3. Your child is or has been a patient of the Children's Cochlear Impant Center at UNC (formerly CASTLE) and/or you participated in any of The CARE Project's retreats or educational opportunities

  4. You want to share your experiences and stories to help guide others

  5. You are able to respond to emails from members

  6. You are willing to submit to a vetting process

Is my privacy protected?

The information you share with us through registration and your CareCoach through the TCP CareConnect messaging system is encrypted and stored using the latest industry-standard practices. Your privacy is a top priority.

What if I have a problem?

Please reach out to our Support Team with your problems or concerns using our Contact form and we will do our best to help resolve your issues as quickly as possible.

How is communication handled?

Communication with your CareCoach through the TCP CareConnect secure messaging system works in a similar way to text messaging or direct messaging through your favorite social media platform.
